Equine Facilitated Wellness

a fresh way to explore life, trauma & healing

Horses provide us with a unique and objective way to see and experience ourselves. We can all benefit from slowing down and reconnecting with our authentic self. Working with an equine facilitator offers you a new way to explore your life narrative and attachments.

When we work closely with horses, we are given a unique opportunity to become more self-aware and self-reflective because we begin to see our own behaviours mirrored by the horse. Working with horses helps us become grounded in ourselves, and offers a calm and gentle approach to exploring the complexities of our lives and possible traumas we may have experienced with an animal who provides us with unconditional love.

People who would like to try an alternative to traditional counselling will enjoy the quiet approach offered by working with horses. Horses do not probe or require us to talk at all; their presence alone is often healing.

WHY HORSES?

Working with an equine facilitator offers a new way to explore life's narratives as horses provide an objective way to see and experience life.

Exploring

An opportunity to reflect and look inside for your own wisdom, and to your cultural heritage for empowerment.

Becoming Grounded

Breathe deep, and become present in yourself and discover what your environment can teach you.

Experiencing

As an alternative to traditional counselling, find healing through engaging in activities meaningful to you.

HOW IT WORKS

Working with Shawna, you can explore which horse you are most drawn to work with. Each of the horses have unique personalities and histories of their own, and you may discover that you connect deeply with one of them on some level. It is often an interesting and informative experience discussing what drew you to the horse and how your own stories and personalities are connected.

Working with Shawna you will co-develop your sessions to target your personal goals. Shawna will lead you through calm activities with the horses that help you see, connect, and experience yourself at a deeper level.

There is no riding; all work with the horses is done through observation, in-hand leading, and grooming.
